asked the Minister for Transport and Power what schemes have been carried out under the Tourist Traffic Acts in Sligo during the current year; and if he will state the cost of these schemes.

11.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what schemes have been carried out under the Tourist Traffic Acts in Leitrim during the current year; and if he will state the cost of these schemes.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together.

Under the scheme for the development of major tourist resorts, 17 resorts and resort areas were selected for development. One of the resort areas selected is the River Shannon and lakes and a grant has accordingly been provided by Bord Fáilte for the provision of berthage and harbour facilities for pleasure cruisers at Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim. The total cost of the scheme is £100,000 of which Bord Fáilte are providing 75 per cent and the county council 25 per cent. Total expenditure in the current year is £50,000 approximately.

In addition, minor improvement works are being carried out in County Leitrim at Garadice Lake, Gulladoo Lake and Lough Allen, for which grants totalling £5,500 are being provided in the current year by Bord Fáilte.

None of the resorts or resort areas chosen for development is in County Sligo. Some minor improvement works have, however, been carried out in that county at Carraroe and Mullaghmore in the current year for which Bord Fáilte have provided grants of £110 and £285 respectively.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state if these various schemes have been channelled through the North-West Regional Development Committee? Was it on the recommendation of this committee that these schemes were planned and carried out, or are in the process of being carried out?

This question deals specifically with Sligo and Leitrim. However, I take it that those counties being in the north-western area it would be done in that manner but I have not got that information.

The Parliamentary Secretary will appreciate that the one regional committee caters for the three counties, Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim at the expense of Donegal?

I could not accept that.
