Vol. 236 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transmission of Document by Post.

11.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether, in reference to the fact that a customer at a subpostoffice handed in a document to the subpostmaster for transmission to the latter's superiors, and that, subsequently, in the subpostmaster's absence an assistant refused to return the document before it had left the office on the grounds that he had orders from the subpostmaster to transmit it to the district postmaster, he will state what the regulations are in a matter of this kind.

: Without information as to the nature of the document and the circumstances generally I am unable to say what regulations are applicable. If the document was accepted at a post office for transmission as a postal packet or was posted subsequent to acceptance it could not be taken out of the post and handed back to the sender. The regulations applicable in such circumstances are published at page 27 of Eolaí an Phoist (The Post Office Guide) Volume 1.
