Vol. 236 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to the Ballyguiroe group water scheme, Kildorrery, County Cork.

: The group in this case have appointed a contractor and delivery of pipes and materials is awaited.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to the Shanavoher group water scheme, Mallow, County Cork.

: Cork County Council have agreed to the request of the group to carry out a yield test of the proposed source. If the results of this test are satisfactory, the group will be advised in the preparation of a suitable design.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to the proposed water scheme for Killagrohan-Scarteen, Mallow, County Cork.

: Having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services only those sanitary services works of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at the present time. As I indicated in reply to a recent question I have recently released a number of urgent schemes in Cork and I am considering the release of two further such schemes.

The scheme referred to by the Deputy has not been accorded a high priority on the list submitted by the local authority.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will expedite a decision on the proposals submitted by Limerick County Council in regard to the source of supply for the Herbertstown water supply scheme.

: Having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services only those sanitary services works of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at the present time. In the case of Limerick I have recently released urgent schemes costing about £40,000.

The scheme referred to by the Deputy has not been accorded a high priority on the list of schemes submitted by the local authority.

27.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if Cavan County Council do not propose to proceed now with the regional water scheme for Ballyhaise, Redhills and Butlersbridge and, if so, if he will state the reason for this having regard to the fact that the people of these areas were led to believe that arrangements were in an advanced stage to make piped water available to them and that many people have made plans on this assumption.

: As I indicated in my reply to the Deputy's recent question, the water supply requirements of Cavan town are regarded as the most urgent and having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential schemes, the revised scheme is being restricted for the time being to meeting these requirements.

The areas referred to will be considered for inclusion in a later section of the scheme.

(Cavan): Could the Minister tell me when the proposal to provide piped water for Ballyhaise, Redhills and Butlersbridge as included in the original scheme, was dropped? When was that decision reached?

: I have not that information; I was not asked for it. I shall write and tell the Deputy.

(Cavan): I should be glad if the Minister would do so. Could the Minister give me any indication when it is proposed to deal with these villages?

: No. At a later stage.

(Cavan): How much later?

: It will depend on the priority.

(Cavan): In the meantime will the Minister take steps to sanction the provision of pumps or other sources of supply for these districts?

: Yes, if these are submitted.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work on the Shanballymore sewerage scheme, County Cork is likely to start.

: I am informed by the local authority that work on this scheme is expected to commence within a week or two.
