Vol. 236 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Return of Skimmed Milk.

8.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the estimated number of gallons of skimmed milk at present returned by the creameries to the dairy farmers in County Limerick.

I am informed that returns furnished to An Bord Bainne indicate that during the week ended 25th June, the latest for which figures are available, approximately 949,000 gallons of skim milk were returned to suppliers from central creameries in County Limerick and from separating stations whose associated churning centres are located in that county.

Can the Minister say how this compares with last year's performance?

It means about two gallons of milk on average per purchaser. It means 200 per cent.

Can the Minister say how much milk came back last year?

I cannot tell the Deputy. I have not got that information. I would not say it is up by a lot.

Can the Minister state how many calves are being reared there?

I am not quite sure of that either.

Imported calves?

Bull calves.
