Vol. 236 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Drimnagh (Dublin) Car Parking Facilities.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government what action he proposes to take to relieve the traffic and fire hazards and the danger to life in the Drimnagh area of Dublin resulting from the refusal of an organistation (name supplied) to allow tenants to park their cars in their gardens.

I understand that although Dublin Corporation have been pursuing this matter, the owners of the property are still not prepared to allow tenants to park their cars in their gardens so as to overcome the dangers to which the Deputy refers. I am pursuing the matter to see what action can be taken to have this unsatisfactory situation remedied.

Would the Minister take into consideration the fact that the fire brigade and ambulance have no access to the bulk of the houses in the Drimnagh area in the evening time? Would he expedite this inquiry into the question of parking cars in this area? This was raised in the House 12 months ago.

We cannot have a speech on this.

This is a matter of great importance.

That is the trouble with a Fianna Fáil Government. They will not move.

A fire hazard exists. Nothing has been done about it for more than 12 months.

It would take more than a fire hazard to get a Fianna Fáil Government to move.

We are fully aware of the circumstances in this case. The widening of the road is not the responsibility of the Minister for Local Government and neither is this his responsibility. These are matters for Dublin Corporation.

What about power to acquire the property?

Power to acquire the road.

You would be into the houses, if you did. The gardens are too small.
