Vol. 236 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Service to Phoenix Park.

42.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange for permission to be given to CIE to provide a stage carriage service to and from the central area in the Phoenix Park, Dublin in order to enable the people to avail of the amenities of the park.

I have received no application from Córas Iompair Éireann for permission to provide this service.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the citizens of Dublin, including myself, for the past 50 years have availed of the amenities of the Park by tram and bus which stopped at the Park gate and will he undertake to ensure that this practice will continue for the next half century as it has operated for the past century and a half?

The Deputy will be aware that the purpose of the Park is for the recreation of the people of Dublin and the country and it would be our anxiety at all times to see that this recreation is protected and provided for.

Did the Deputy ever walk home broke from the Park races?

I was never at the Phoenix Park races.

He never had a bob each way on anything.
