Vol. 236 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Arigna Cement Factory.

55.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the recommendation of the Committee on Science and Irish Economic Development that cement production is a suitable method of using coal produced in the Arigna coalfield, he will offer special inducements for the establishment of a cement factory in the Arigna area.

Cement production in this country is carried out by private enterprise and the location of cement factories and the production methods involved are matters to be determined by the firm concerned. I have had no proposals for the establishment of a cement factory at Arigna and the question of offering special inducement for that area does not, therefore, arise.
