Vol. 236 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Unemployment.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if he is aware of the very serious unemployment problem in Ballina and other parts of Mayo; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this growing problem.

I am fully alive to the unemployment problem in Ballina, in other parts of Mayo, and in the West generally.

The Government provides valuable facilities through the Industrial Development Authority to encourage the establishment and development of industries in all areas in order to increase employment opportunities. Any sound proposals by local or other interests in Mayo are assured of these facilities. The Employment Service of the Department of Labour puts people in touch with jobs that are notified to the employment offices.
