asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of the national schools in Laois-Offaly (a) about to be erected or in course of erection and (b) in course of repair or about to be repaired.

With your permission, a Leas-Cheann Chomhairle, I propose to circulate, for inclusion in the Official Report a statement in tabular form giving the information requested by the Deputy.

Following is the statement:

Note:

I. Work is already in progress at the schools marked * above. In the case of the remaining schools arrangements are at different stages of progress and it is not possible at this stage to give a precise indication as to when building work will commence.

II. In addition to the cases listed at (b) above, there are other schools in the constituency where schemes for the provision of water-flushed sanitation and improved heating are being carried out by Managers under the terms of a recent general circular authorising them to undertake, without prior consultation, such improvements in the heating and sanitation of schools as are urgently needed.

asked the Minister for Education if he proposes to give sanction for the erection of a new vocational school at Stradbally, County Laois.

This matter is at present under consideration in conjunction with the views expressed by parents and other interested parties at a public meeting held by my Department in Stradbally recently.

I hope to be in a position shortly to reach a decision on the matter.
