Vol. 236 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Education of Island Children.

41.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the hardship imposed on islanders whose gross income exceeds £750 per annum through being required to pay one-third of the cost of their children's education in post-primary schools; and, if so, if he will amend the scheme by increasing the amount of the grant.

I do not accept that it is a hardship on an island parent whose income exceeds £750 per annum to have to pay a sum not exceeding £45 towards the maintenance cost of his child in a boarding school.
