Vol. 236 No. 9

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 4 and, in No. 4, Votes 20 to 25, inclusive. Private Members' Business will be taken from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

On the Order of Business, I wonder can the Taoiseach, in order to allay the uneasiness in the Government and the Fianna Fáil Party, confirm or deny impending changes in the Government and I wonder, too, if he is aware that what the country expects is a new Government and not just changes.

If there are to be any changes in the Government they will be announced in due course. I do not feel called upon now to answer in detail.

Now that the Taoiseach has had time to survey part of the ground, in the political sense, perhaps he would tell us if the by-election writ will be moved before Christmas.

I cannot say.

After Christmas?

I cannot say.

Before the general election?

I cannot say.

Does the Taoiseach know anything at all?

I know a great many things, but I do not feel obliged to tell everything I know.

Are you leading the Party still?

Would it not be reasonable to move it about this time?

In more favourable circumstances.

I am not a judge of what is reasonable——

Deputies

Hear, hear.

You were not, in the past few months.

There is no point in my getting up every day after Question Time. Maybe the Taoiseach could suggest when I might inquire again?

I do not know. That matter will be considered in the proper time.

(Cavan): The one man who seems in good humour over there today is the Minister for Industry and Commerce.

Any Member of the House can move it.

Would the Taoiseach accept the motion?

I wish to raise the subject matter of Question No. 34 on the Order Paper of Thursday, 24th October, 1968.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

I, also, wish to give notice that I propose to move on the Adjournment Question No. 37 on today's Order Paper. However, I shall defer to Deputy O'Higgins and Deputy Fitzpatrick, who asked before me. I shall wait until later in the week, if that meets with the approval of the Chair.

In that case, it will be necessary for the Deputy to give the notice again.

Tomorrow, again? Very good, Sir.

The day on which the Deputy——

I shall keep on asking every day until the day I am allowed to raise the matter on the Adjournment.
