Vol. 236 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - External Assets.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance what are the net external assets of the combined resources of the Cenral Bank, joint stock banks and Government funds for the last available date.

The net external assets of the Central Bank, Associated Banks and Government funds amounted to £295.5 million on 30th September, 1968.

How does it compare with 1967; can the Taoiseach say?

It is higher in 1967 for some months but about the same for the latter months of 1967.

And 1968 and 1969?

Might I ask the Minister for Finance a supplementary? Has he any estimate as to what the likely deficit or surplus will be in the current year?

The current year is expected to be fairly well in balance but it is possible that a deficit could accrue in the next financial year.
