Vol. 236 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Pay Increase.

33.

asked the Minister for Defence when it is proposed to grant the 11th round wage increase to serving personnel in the Army.

A decision will be reached in this matter as quickly as possible.

Would the Minister be able to say why a decision has not been taken before now in view of the fact that other State Departments, including the Department of Justice, have already applied to those in their care the eleventh round increase?

Army pay is normally adjusted in the light of developments in Civil Service pay.

Will the Minister assure us there will be no loss to serving members of the Army as a result of the delay in making a decision?

There will not be any departure from previous practice. In relation to retrospection, there will be no departure from the practice previously followed.

They will get the same retrospection as other State employees?

That is the normal practice.

I want to ensure it will be followed this time.

Question No. 34 postponed.
