Vol. 236 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Housing.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government how many families are on the waiting list for housing in Sligo town; and how many new houses the housing authority is providing in Sligo town.

I am informed by Sligo Corporation that there are 123 families at present on their approved housing waiting list. They have work well advanced on a scheme of 40 houses, and expect to invite tenders shortly for another 48 houses. A further housing site of 11 acres has been acquired by them, and proposals are being formulated for the acquisition of approximately 30 acres for housing purposes.

The National Building Agency are building a scheme of 36 low-cost houses in Sligo town at present. These houses will be allocated to prospective purchasers in consultation with the housing authority.
