Vol. 236 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - On-The-Spot Fines.

49.

asked the Minister for Justice (a) the amount collected by the gardaí from on-the-spot fines during 1967, (b) the total amount collected to date and (c) the amount collected to date for 1968.

The total amount remitted to my Department during the year 1967 in respect of fines-on-the-spot was £67,071.

The total amount remitted during the period from 1st April, 1963, when the scheme commenced, up to the present is £283,503; and the amount remitted during the period from 1st January, 1968 up to the present is £70,107. Neither of these figures includes amounts paid into Garda stations during the present month and not yet remitted to the Department.

Has the Minister any tabulation of the areas in which these fines are imposed?

That is a separate question.

I have not that information.

£400 was collected in Limerick last Saturday.

I have not that information available.

If I put down a question will the Minister answer it?

I always answer any question that is put down.

Question No. 50 postponed.
