Vol. 236 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois School.

55.

asked the Minister for Education whether it is proposed to close Barrowhouse School, County Laois; and, if so, for what reason.

It is proposed to close Barrowhouse school and to have the pupils conveyed to a new central school to be erected at Ballyroe.

A survey of the Barrowhouse and Ballyroe school districts indicated that the latter district had the greater pupil potential while the pupil potential in Barrowhouse school area will be in rapid progressive decline in the coming years. Consequently, Ballyroe was chosen as the location for the new amalgamated school.
