Vol. 236 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Student Nurse Accommodation.

98.

asked the Minister for Health when he will approve the proposal of Dublin Health Authority to provide accommodation at the Weir Home. Cork Street for 60 student nurses from St. Kevin's Hospital; and if he will state, having regard to the fact that there will be up to 140 student nurses at St. Kevin's by the end of next year, what long term plans he has in mind for proper accommodation for student nurses in the hospital precincts.

I have approved the use of the Weir Home as residential accommodation for student nurses subject to the agreement of An Bord Altranais.

The question of long-term plans for the accommodation of student nurses at St. Kevin's Hospital is, of course, bound up with the consideration now being given by Dublin Health Authority and the other hospital authorities concerned to the new role which St. Kevin's should play in the reorganised hospital service for Dublin. As soon as the lines of development have been agreed, I would hope to see rapid progress towards implementation.
