Vol. 236 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Management of Shannon Airport.

29.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will make a full statement on the transfer of management of Shannon Airport to Aer Rianta; and if he will give an assurance that the present management staff, including civil servants, will be offered conditions of employment comparable to those which they now enjoy.

I have decided that the management functions in respect of Shannon and Cork Airports at present exercised by my Department should be transferred to Aer Rianta as my agents.

Arrangements for the transfer are proceeding and it is intended that as far as possible Aer Rianta will have effectively assumed management responsibilities by 1st April, 1969. It is my intention at a later date and in the light of experience of the new managements, to introduce legislation to constitute Aer Rianta as an Airports Authority with full responsibility for the three Airports.

It is hoped to issue, very shortly, a statement to each affected member of the staff at Shannon Airport apprising him of his position on the changeover.

As I have indicated in reply to previous Questions, the position of the staff affected by the transfer of management of Shannon Airport to Aer Rianta Teoranta will be safeguarded. They may be assured that there will be no worsening of their conditions of employment.
