Vol. 236 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prohibition on Customs and Excise Officials.

23.

asked the Minister for Finance if there is any prohibition on Customs and Excise officials accepting free or reduced fare trips from shipping companies or airlines, even though working in premises provided by these companies; and, if so, whether he now proposes to withdraw this prohibition.

Customs and Excise officials are debarred from accepting any fee, perquisite or reward, directly or indirectly, whether pecuniary or otherwise, in connection with the discharge of their duties. It is not proposed to withdraw this regulation.

It is wrong for them but it is right for the Taoiseach to accept free travel abroad.
