Vol. 236 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplementary Housing Grants.

48.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in assessing the entitlement of a person building a new house to a supplementary housing grant, his wife counts as a dependant.

Under section 26 of the Housing Act, 1966, the determination of the income of an applicant for a new house supplementary grant is a matter for the housing authority. However, I would see no objection to an authority regarding the wife of an applicant who is maintained by him, as a dependant for the purposes of the section.
