Vol. 236 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

50.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Kerry County Council early this year provided the amount of money required in connection with rock excavation for the Ballymacelligott group water scheme; and what is the cause of the delay in work commencing.

I understand that Kerry County Council have not yet formally undertaken to make the contribution referred to by the Deputy which was agreed to by my Department on the 6th September last.

I am having the matter looked into.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the proposed extension from the New-market water supply to Kanturk and Castlemagner, County Cork, will take place.

As I indicated in a reply to an earlier question by the Deputy in relation to this scheme, only those sanitary services works of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at the present time having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services.

On this basis I have this year released sanitary services schemes in Cork to the value of over £1 million.

Representations were recently received in my Department in regard to the urgency of the extension to Kanturk, and correspondence is proceeding with the local authority.

52.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to sanction the scheme for the provision of a water supply for the village of Shrule, County Mayo.

On the latest information available to me the local authority do not regard the Shrule water supply scheme as having a very high priority in their water and sewerage programme.

There was a deputation——

Has the Deputy a question to put to the Minister?

Surely it is a shocking thing that in a tourist area——

The Deputy may not make a speech: he may put a question to the Minister.

Mayo County Council have not accorded it a high place in their priorities in water and sewerage programmes.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Muingaphuca, Killorglin water scheme; and when it is likely to be implemented.

Approval has been given to a proposal of the Kerry County Council to provide a six inch main in the area, which will ensure a supply of water for this group water scheme. The group has been advised to seek quotations for the different elements of the scheme, so that work can commence as soon as the public main is laid.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding the long-awaited Sussa water scheme at Emlaghmore, Waterville, County Kerry.

On the latest information available to me the local authority do not regard the scheme referred to by the Deputy as having a high priority in their water and sewerage programme.

55.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total amount of money allocated to Wexford County Council for water and sewerage schemes for the present financial year; the particular schemes which have been sanctioned; and the amount allocated for each.

An initial capital allocation of £75,000 was made to Wexford County Council on the 21st June, 1968, in respect of sanitary and miscellaneous services schemes which were in progress as at 31st March, 1968.

A further scheme has since been released for commencement in the current year—Gorey-Courtown water supply stage 2, phase 1.

An additional allocation will be made in respect of this scheme at loan approval stage.
