Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Cottages.

10.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in approving tenders for the erection of cottages, submitted by Cork County Council (West); and when it is proposed to sanction these tenders.

My approval has been withheld to the acceptance of tenders for four rural cottages where the price was substantially in excess of the current average building cost of rural cottages in the area. The possibility of adopting alternative methods of building these cottages was discussed with officers of the council in the course of a recent visit to the area by the officers of my Department. The council have now been informed, formally, that I am not prepared to approve their original proposal and their further submission will be awaited. There are no other housing tender proposals before me from the West Cork area at present.
