Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Scheme Modification.

125.

asked the Minister for Lands if in view of the very limited response to section 6 of the Land Act, 1965, he will now consider modifications designed to make this scheme more attractive and so speed up the work of consolidation necessary to provide the maximum number of viable holdings.

I dealt with this matter fully when introducing the Lands Estimate on 23rd October and when replying to the debate the following day; references to the Official Report are Cols. 1129-1133 of Vol. 236 (No.7) and Cols. 1298-9 of Vol. 236 (No.8). The scheme is still at the trial stage and it is as yet too soon to expect spectacular results. As in the case of any new measure such as this, the question of altering or amending the scheme in the light of experience gained in its operation is constantly borne in mind.
