Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the fact that group water schemes to which the local contributions are fully paid are held up because of his Department's refusal to sanction the proposal of the northern committee of the Cork County Council to erect a booster reservoir for the Castletownroche water scheme, he will give immediate sanction to this most urgent proposal.

Having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services, only those sanitary services works of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at the present time. On this basis I am not yet in a position to say when a decision on the scheme referred to by the Deputy is likely to issue.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will now agree to the repeated requests of the members of the northern committee of the Cork County Council to receive a deputation from them to discuss the long delay of his Department in giving sanction to go ahead with the different water schemes submitted by them.

Having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services, only those sanitary services works of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at the present time. On this basis I have this year released water and sewerage schemes to the value of over £1 million in Cork city and county. Other schemes including these which are the subject of the request for the reception of a deputation from the northern committee of Cork County Council must wait their turn.

No useful purpose would, therefore, be served by the reception of the proposed deputation at the present time.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has yet sanctioned the extensions to Ballyhaunis water supply, County Mayo; and if not, what is the reason for the delay.

On the latest information available to me the local authority do not regard the extensions referred to by the Deputy as having a high priority in their water and sewerage programme.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Carrigart-Creeslough-Kilmacrennan sewerage scheme, County Donegal.

I have fully approved the Carrigart-Creeslough-Kilmacrennan sewerage scheme, but I am informed by the local authority that they are having some difficulty in relation to the completion of contract documents.
