Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - External Degrees.

60.

asked the Minister for Education if he will recommend to the universities the desirability of granting external degrees based on correspondence courses, similar to those available to British students, as it would benefit national teachers and ultimately national school pupils, and also leaving certificate holders who cannot afford to attend a university.

I stated in reply to similar questions on 21st February, 1968, and 12th June, 1968, the matter of providing extern degree facilities is one within the competence of the University authorities and which no doubt will fall to be considered in relation to the future provision of higher education.
