Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

83.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total annual amount by which payments to social welfare recipients would be increased if Government expenditure on social welfare were restored to the same percentage of (a) total Government expenditure and (b) gross national product as existed in 1958-59.

Payments to social welfare recipients in 1968-69 would be (a) increased by an estimated £10.1 million if they were based on the same percentage of total Government expenditure in that year as in 1958-59, and (b) reduced by £9.8 million if they were based on the same percentage of the estimated gross national product in 1968 as in 1958.
