Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sheepskin Exports.

96.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when his Department proposes to review the statutory order restricting the export of domestic sheepskins.

97.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce for what purpose restrictions are placed on the export of domestic sheepskins.

With your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 96 and 97 together.

Control of the export of sheepskins was imposed so that adequate supplies would be available to the fellmongery and tanning industries. The control also operates for the benefit of the sheepskin pickling plants.

In the absence of a demand from the interests concerned, backed by evidence that the lifting of the control would not create unemployment, I do not propose to make any change in the existing control arrangements.
