Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Advertising Expenditure.

99.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his Department have held any talks with business interests specialising in consumer products in an effort to limit the expenditure of such companies on advertising; whether he has suggested to such interests the necessity to concentrate on price competition; and whether he considers that there is excessive spending on advertising promotion to the detriment of price competition.

I have not discussed levels of advertising expenditure with companies engaged in the production or marketing of consumer products nor have I evidence that such expenditure is excessive or operates to the detriment of price competition.
