Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Dangerous Dwellings.

9.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) the number of dwellings declared dangerous by Dublin Corporation in each of the past three years, (b) the number of these dwellings which were demolished, (c) the number reconstructed and (d) the purpose for which reconstruction took place.

I am informed by Dublin Corporation that the total number of dangerous buildings notices served by them under section 3 of the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act, 1964, in the three years ended on the 31st October 1968 was 2,129, of which 989 were served in the year ended 31st October, 1966, 776 in the year ended 31st October, 1967 and 364 in the year ended 31st October, 1968. These notices related to all types of buildings including houses; separate figures for the numbers that related to houses only are not readily available. The number of occupied houses, or parts of houses, demolished or to be demolished, pursuant to the notices, is 311. All other occupied houses for which notices were served in the period have been or are being made safe by means other than demolition, including reconstruction. Figures for the numbers reconstructed or for the purposes for which reconstruction took place are not available.
