Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Attendance at Mayo Clinic.

120.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that very heavy transport costs have been borne by children and adults from outlying parts of the County Mayo who have to go to the county clinic at Castlebar; and if he has any plans to provide travel vouchers for them.

I am aware of the travelling costs involved for Mayo people in attending at the county clinic in Castlebar. Travel vouchers are, in fact, issued by the Mayo County Council in cases which in the opinion of the council would otherwise involve hardship. The council normally require a person to apply in advance for a travel voucher but in exceptional circumstances they will recoup the expenses incurred after the event.
