Vol. 237 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Pensions.

13.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if CIE propose to increase the pension allowance of all CIE pensioners, many of whom have a service of 25, 30 and 40 years, as many of them are unable to live on the small pension of £4 12s 6d for those who are single and £7 5s for those who are married.

Since 1963 CIE have been authorised by me to grant two ex gratia increases to pensioners who retired before 1st April, 1963, who are those in receipt of the pensions quoted by the Deputy. The most recent increase was 5s per week which was granted in August, 1968, with effect from 1st January, 1968.

Social welfare benefit payments were increased by 5s per week for a single man or woman and 10s for a married man with effect from January, 1968, and will be further increased by 7/6 per week for a single man or woman and by 15s per week for a married man with effect from January, 1969.
