Vol. 237 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bank of China Letter.

16.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has any statement to make in regard to the attempt to enlist Irish banking and insurance concerns in the cause of Chinese-backed economic and political revolutions in the letter which has recently reached the Bank of Ireland from the Bank of China; if he will make the full text of this letter and the reply available; and if the matter was considered by the Government.

I understand that the letter to which the Deputy refers, although written in a propagandist style, was, in fact, a business letter about the effect on certain banking transactions of a recent decision of a Chinese insurance company. I understand that no reply is being sent to it. I see no reason to ask that the full text be published.

The matter was not considered by the Government.
