Vol. 237 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun (Dublin) Post Office.

13.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what is the present position regarding the provision of a post office at Ballymun, Dublin.

A sub-post office will be provided for the area at the projected shopping centre when the centre has been developed.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary take steps to see that those people are provided with postal facilities? Is he aware that Ballymun is now a town comparable with most provincial towns in Ireland and that it is entirely without postal facilities?

As I have said in the reply, a sub-post office will be provided for the area at the projected shopping centre when the centre has been developed.

You cannot put it there until the development has taken place.

Is it not possible to provide even temporary facilities?

We are satisfied that at the moment the sub-post office at Ballymun Avenue on the southern fringe of the Ballymun estate meets the needs of the Ballymun area reasonably; we do not say ideally.

The residents of Ballymun are not satisfied.

Has the Parliamentary Secretary any idea when the shopping facilities and the general centre will, in fact, be completed?

That would be a matter for Local Government. I would not have that information.

Pass the buck.

Live horse and you will get grass.
