Vol. 237 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewage Schemes.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received a request from Cork County Council for sanction to their borrowing from their treasurers money required for urgent and essential water and sewage schemes; and, if so, if he will forward sanction to the proposals.

I have already notified the Cork County Council that for a number of specified reasons the proposal referred to by the Deputy could not be approved.

Is the Minister aware that the amount allocated by the Minister's Department for this proposal is something like £100,000 short of our proposals for the same period? This is a county where you have enormous housing needs due to the great industrial advance. In view of the position will the Minister either give the authority to get the money from his own local loans department or else let us get the money otherwise? Do not be doing the dog in the manager.

I have already indicated to Cork County Council that this cannot be approved at present.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department have now finished examining the contract documents for the Glanmire-Riverstown-Little Island water supply augmentation scheme forwarded to his Department on 17th May last which, owing to large industrial and development activity in that district, is placed number one on the Cork County Council's priority list; and, if so, if he will now sanction the scheme so that this essential work can be proceeded with.

Examination of the contract documents for the scheme referred to by the Deputy has not as yet been completed in my Department. I am not in a position at present to say when a decision thereon is likely to issue.

Does it take from May until November for a scheme to be examined in the Minister's Department and, if so, will he have the heads of the people examining it examined?

It is hoped to deal with this shortly.
