Vol. 237 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School Transport.

42.

asked the Minister for Education if he will now provide a feeder transport service from Churchtown South, Cloyne to Midleton secondary and technical schools, County Cork; and, if so, when.

43.

asked the Minister for Education if he can now state when the feeder service required by a number of pupils living in Churchtown South and Ballycotton, County Cork for transport to Midleton secondary and vocational schools will be provided by CIE.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 42 and 43 together.

I am glad to be able to inform the Deputy that, as from Monday 11th November, 1968, the auxiliary public bus service operating from Cloyne to Midleton has been extended as far as Churchtown South to cater for post-primary pupils from this area.

Pupils from Ballycotton have free transport to Midleton on the ordinary public schedule service.

44.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received representations for a larger bus to transport the pupils residing in Ballymacoda, Gortroe and Red Barn, County Cork to secondary and vocational schools in Youghal; and if he will make provision for this bus.

I am advised that the post-primary transport services in these areas have been improved as from Monday, 28th October, 1968, and that the improved services are reasonably satisfactory. It is not proposed at this stage to introduce a larger bus but the matter will be reviewed from time to time.
