Vol. 237 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Coastal Erosion Schemes.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of coastal erosion schemes submitted to his Department by the Donegal County Council; the date on which each scheme was submitted to him; the number of such schemes which have been approved; and the money provided for them.

The Commissioners of Public Works have received nine proposals for coast protection schemes from the Donegal County Council. Proposals for schemes at Moville, Ardsmore and Ardsbeg, Magheraroarty, Buncrana and Rossnowlagh were submitted on the 14th April, 1964. Proposals for schemes at Shore Road, Mountcharles, and Ball Hill, Mountcharles, were submitted on the 9th June, 1966. Proposals for schemes at Kilmacreddan and Rosapenna were submitted on the 30th November, 1967. The statutory preliminary examination of the proposals for Moville and Rossnowlagh were carried out and favourable determinations made. No scheme has yet been finally approved and accordingly no financial provision has yet been made.

Is there any hope at all of implementing the Act?

It is reasonable to assume that, because there are so many proposals for coastal protection schemes before the Commissioners, a great many of them will have to wait a long time before they are done.

1964 to 1968 is a long time.

asked the Minister for Finance if any progress has been made regarding the problem of coastal erosion at the River Row, Moville, County Donegal.

I cannot say yet when a scheme for this area will be prepared and construction work carried out.
