Vol. 237 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Constituencies Map.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange to make available to each Member of the Oireachtas an ordnance survey map (scale ¼" to the mile) showing the boundaries of existing constituencies and also the boundaries of the constituencies proposed in the Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1968.

Maps showing existing and proposed constituencies have been deposited in the Oireachtas Library and I do not propose to provide separate maps for each Member of the Oireachtas.

It would take up an excessive amount of time to do it— and, of course, it would not be done by my Department, anyway. It would be done by the Ordnance Survey.

Why would it take up an excessive amount of time?

There is no need to do it. The maps are in the Library.

If every Deputy wants to look at the maps at the one time, there will be quite a crush.

Has Deputy Tully not got one over there?

If I could get one in two hours, the Minister could get one in two weeks.

It is typical. It is an example. It is most uncooperative to keep the people in the dark for as long as possible.
