Vol. 237 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Speed Limits.

41.

andMr. Creed asked the Minister for Local Government when he will make revised speed limits regulations for that portion of County Cork which includes the towns of Millstreet, Kanturk, Newmarket and adjoining villages.

Preparation of revised speed limits regulations for County Cork including towns in the north Cork area, is well advanced and I hope to have these regulations in operation by the 1st February next.

I am quite sure the Minister is aware that about five months ago he gave me the same reply here and he surely will agree that there is an undue delay with regard to providing these speed limits which are a factor in making the roads safer? It is extraordinary that although application was made four years ago, we have not the speed limits now and will not have them for another six months.

I did not give the Deputy the same reply five months ago. The reply was different. I have given the Deputy a date now by which these new regulations will be in operation.
