Vol. 237 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Flooding.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the recurring floods at King Street and South Main Street, Wexford, and the severe losses incurred by the occupants of the houses in these areas, he will now approve the proposals to alleviate flooding submitted to him by the Wexford Corporation.

Wexford Corporation's preliminary proposals for relief of flooding at King Street, Wexford, and adjoining areas were approved by me on 12th instant.

Does the Minister appreciate the seriousness of the flooding in this particular area? Would he consider it as a matter of urgency, as it is likely to recur in the winter months? Is he in a position to say what State aid might be given to finance the proposals of the Wexford Corporation and whether or not they can borrow from the Local Loans Fund?

I was not asked that.

That is a separate Question.

The plans submitted to me have been approved and the Wexford Corporation are now preparing the contract documents.

Could the Minister say whether or not the Wexford Corporation asked him what size of a State grant they might expect and if they could get facilities from the Local Loans Fund?

Wexford Corporation have forwarded proposals for a scheme estimated to cost £64,000.

Did they ask the Minister whether or not they would get grant and loan facilities?

Not as far as I am aware.

As far as my information goes I think, mind you I think, they did ask whether or not they would get grant and loan facilities.

The Deputy did not ask me that.

I am asking the Minister now and——

I do not know.

——that is the object of supplementary questions.

No, the Deputy should ask for the information he wants.

I am asking now.

I do not know now. The Deputy should have put the question down in that way. If the Deputy asked for the information he required I would have it.

The Minister is a sadist.
