Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Rubbish Dumps.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he will take steps to eradicate the obnoxious smell coming from the rubbish dump along the Clontarf sea front, Dublin which is causing great distress to the local residents.

I am informed by Dublin Corporation that there is no rubbish dump along the Clontarf seafront. Their nearest tiphead is at Bond Road, East Wall, where land reclamation is taking place by the dumping of refuse under controlled conditions and precautions are taken to ensure that there are no obnoxious smells from the tiphead.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the serious danger to health arising out of rubbish deposits in the River Tolka; and if so, what action he intends to take on this matter.

I am informed by Dublin Corporation that some illegal depositing of rubbish takes place in the Tolka river within the city area and that this is cleared periodically by them. The Dublin chief medical officer advises that there is no danger to health arising from this dumping.
