Vol. 237 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Garda Patrols.

26.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider providing extra Gardaí on patrol bicycles during the summer months in the Portrane-Donabate area of County Dublin.

The Commissioner of the Garda Síochána has informed me that he has this question under active consideration.

I want to state——

Has the Deputy a question to put?

Yes, I want to ask the Minister if he would urge the Commissioner to provide new patrol bicycles for the Lusk station, which services this particular area. There is no station in the Portrane-Donabate area which is a holiday resort and during the summer months requests have been made frequently and constantly to me and to the other Deputies for a Garda patrol in the area.

There is an official motor cycle allocated to the station which is used primarily to deal with traffic but also assists in general police work. I can assure the Deputy that the strength question and that of mobile patrols at a number of centres throughout the country, including Lusk, is under review at the moment.

Are these bicycles supplied by the Department?

To make a quick getaway.
