Vol. 237 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Bog.

102.

asked the Minister for Lands what is the present position regarding the 200 acres of bog at Frayne and Clonmore, Kildalkey, County Meath, which the Forestry Division of his Department were acquiring some years ago.

A proposal to transfer the area to the Forestry Division is at present under consideration in the Land Commission and an early decision is expected.

Would the Minister remember that that reply was given to me, just immediately after he took over, by his predecessor on two previous occasions? This matter has been under active consideration for about five years, if my memory serves me correctly.

I appreciate that. The previous answer was that the area had been inspected and would be considered for purchase. Since then the problem of a turbary trust arose and it took time to have this revoked. That is part of the reason why the Land Commission were slow in taking it over.

Can the Minister say now when the matter will be finalised?

All I can tell the Deputy is that a scheme is being prepared for a transfer.

If the present Dáil is in existence in February, can I put down a further question?

Yes, there will be the same Government, so you can put down a question.
