Vol. 237 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Valuation System.

2.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider departing from the provisions of the 1852 Griffith Land Valuation System in favour of a more modern and practical system.

I would refer the Deputy to the investigations being carried out by the Interdepartmental Committee on Local Finance and Taxation which embrace the valuation of agricultural land for local taxation purposes. So far, the Committee has presented three reports dealing with various aspects of the local taxation system. Summarised versions of these reports have been published as White Papers in the hope of evoking constructive comments and suggestions from persons or bodies interested. Until the Committee has completed its investigations and made all its reports, it would be premature to consider any action on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
