Vol. 237 No. 7

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maize Allocation.

43.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries how maize is allocated to various compounders in the country.

Maize is allocated on a quota basis to persons or firms who purchased maize in a datum period January, 1959 to February, 1960. Out of 345 allottees 218 are licensed manufacturers of compound feeding stuffs; the balance are maize millers. Individual quotas may be amended or new quotas granted on the recommendation of An Bord Gráin. In practice such increased allocations as have been made are largely confined to manufacturers of poultry rations for which maize is regarded as an essential ingredient.
