Vol. 237 No. 7

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Dairy Publicity Council.

45.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is satisfied with the progress being made by the National Dairy Publicity Council in promoting the consumption of milk and dairy products on the home market; whether he considers it necessary to launch a more intensive campaign; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The publicity campaigns of the National Dairy Publicity Council have been directed principally towards encouraging increased consumption of cheese. Cheese consumption is in fact estimated to be about 40 per cent higher now than it was in 1963, the year before the council was established.

The council's activities have also included promoting the consumption of liquid milk, cream and butter. This year the council is specially promoting milk consumption in hotels and other catering establishments.

A further expansion of the promotional programme is under consideration.
