Vol. 237 No. 7

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Industrial Workers.

5.

asked the Taoiseach what is the gross average take-home earnings for adult male workers in industry, excluding overtime, for the categories (a) £8 a week and over, (b) £10 a week and over, (c) £12 a week and over, (d) £15 per week and over.

The particulars required by the Deputy are not available. The data on earnings collected and published each quarter relate to average earnings per hour and per week of industrial workers in the transportable goods industries. Separate averages are not available for different wage levels. The earnings data are gross in the sense that they include overtime payments, bonuses, etc. as well as basic pay and are taken before deductions for income tax and social welfare benefits. These constituents of gross earnings are not collected separately from the reporting establishments.
