Vol. 237 No. 7

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Taxes on Income.

6.

asked the Taoiseach what percentage of the total income of households was paid in taxation in each of the years 1951, 1961, 1967 and 1968.

The relevant data on income and taxation from the national accounts relate to households and private non-profit institutions combined. It is estimated that, in 1951, 1961 and 1966, taxes on income (i.e. income tax, sur-tax and social insurance contributions), accounted for 4.8 per cent, 5.5 per cent and 7.8 per cent, respectively, of total income of households and private non-profit institutions. Corresponding information for 1967 and 1968 is not yet available.
