Vol. 237 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow Caravan Site.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is his intention to receive a deputation from the Wicklow County Council in connection with a caravan site at Greystones, County Wicklow; and, if so, when the deputation will be received.

I am considering a statutory objection by the occupier of a caravan site at Greystones against the refusal of the Wicklow County Council to grant him a licence in respect of the site under section 34 of the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act, 1948. I have obtained the views of the objector and of Wicklow County Council in accordance with normal procedure under the Act and I hope to give a decision shortly. No useful purpose would be served in receiving a deputation from the council.

Could the Minister say how long this appeal has been under consideration by him? Could he say when it was first received?

I do not know. I have not got the actual date.

Would the Minister agree that it was about two years ago?

In 1967 the council refused to renew the licence and they refused again in 1968 so it is probably only since the second refusal that this appeal has been lodged.

I understand it has been with the Minister for about two years.

I have not got the date.

Could the Minister say if he has communicated his decision not to receive a deputation from the Wicklow County Council to the Wicklow County Council?

I assume that has been done. I cannot remember. The Wicklow County Council requested the reception of a deputation on 22nd August, 1968. There is no intimation of a reply having gone out.

You were fairly busy around that time.

I take it the Minister will reply?

Yes. It appears to me they have not got a reply.

You were busy with the referendum.
