Vol. 237 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Meath Lands.

179.

asked the Minister for Lands if his Department have acquired the Palmer or any other farm at Leshamstown, Drumree, County Meath; and, if so, the date of acquisition.

While there are no proceedings for the acquisition of the Palmer estate at Leshamstown the Land Commission have recently carried out a detailed inspection of this 200 acre property with a view to determining whether compulsory acquisition proceedings should be instituted. The report furnished is being studied and it is expected that there will be an early decision in the matter.

The Land Commission have recently acquired a total area of 216 acres in the adjoining townland of Clowanstown comprising the Daly estate—136 acres—and the Byrne estate—80 acres —the dates of possession being 13th May, 1968 and 11th September, 1968, respectively.

May we assume that it is the intention to acquire the other estates?
