Vol. 237 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Apprentices.

95.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the situation whereby properly designated apprentices attending full-time day courses at vocational school level are left without work should their firm close-down; and that employers are reluctant to re-employ apprentices who are engaged on a full-time course at vocational school; and whether he proposes to take any steps in the matter.

An Chomhairle Oiliúna, who are the responsible authority, have informed me that, in cases like that referred to in the Question, they take all possible steps open to them to place the apprentice in employment with other suitable firms; and further, that they agree to attendance at full-time courses being interrupted temporarily if this is necessary to secure them alternative employment.
